Flower cheaters
A fun and easy way to make flowers of all sizes and shapes.
These molds can be used with all types of clay, both fired and non-fired. Each flower is capable of making many different flowers, for example, the daisy will also make a great sunflower. Using the large daisy mold and the large spearmint as the center of the flower, you have now created a great looking sunflower. Using the #4 leaf in two different sizes you can create a poinsettia. The #1 leaf is great for ivy or grape leaves.
Let your imagination run wild, and start your creative juices flowing. The possibilities are endless.
Arlene Dee’s “Excellent Dimensional Slip”
Welcome, to the wonderful world of piping, traditionally known as tube lining, these decorative piping techniques are featured in several of our pattern packets.
Piping was a popular method of ceramic decoration in early Victorian times. Primarily used for tile decoration, patterns were outlined using a hand-help bladder or glass pipette filled with stand-up glaze. With our Excellent Dimensional Slip, piping can be applied to greenware, and/or bisque and also under or over glaze. Excellent Dimensional Slip is a versatile and flexible product containing a mixture of glaze ingredients, gums, stabilizers and deflocculated clays. It is presently available in either natural or black and can be fired from cone 018 to cone 6 and anywhere in between.
Original tube liners used liquid slip on leather-hard ware (wet ware). This is too inconvenient for most ceramists today. Our Excellent Dimensional Slip was developed to adhere to both greenware and bisque. You can paint over it as soon as it dries (about 10 minutes) using commercial ceramic colors without first firing or re-firing to set the Excellent Dimensional Slip. It is stable for use on projects up to cone 6 and is therefore suitable for earthenware and stoneware and the type of porcelain techniques which utilize these temperatures. You can also use it over already fired glaze and the re-fire.
Excellent Dimensional Slip can be used at all stages, greenware or bisque, just pipe, and allow to set, paint and fire or pipe, fire and paint. You can also add piping to the top of the color at any time before the final glaze firing.
Do not refrigerate! Keep Excellent Dimensional Slip at room temperature. Store in the Container. Product can be reactivated with water. Simply add water, stir or shake.
The AirPen® is also a great way to apply the slip to your pieces. The ease of use for you or your students that have difficulty squeezing justifies the cost especially for those of us that love to pipe! |
